Texas Energy Star Program and HERS Rating

Launched in 1992, Energy Star is a voluntary program by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate by promoting superior energy efficiency. Products are independently certified to save energy and help prevent climate change without sacrificing features or functionality.

The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is the industry standard for measuring a home's energy efficiency. A certified, independent Home Energy Rater assesses each home, assigning it a relative performance score. The lower the number, the more energy efficient the home. The U.S. Department of Energy has determined that a standard new home receives a rating of 100. This means a home with a HERS Index Score of 70 is 30% more energy efficient. A home with a HERS score of 0 is ready to become a zero-energy capable, enabling it to generate all the energy it uses.

The EcoSmart technology in Whisper Valley homes utilizes only Energy Star appliances where available, and tries to optimize both the AEGB program and the HERS rating system.
