Ford Launches Initiative to Improve Austin Public Transportation
U.S. automaker Ford hopes to improve Austin public transportation and mobility with a new initiative called City:One Challenge. The program asks Austinites to submit their ideas for improving mobility and identifying unmet transportation needs. The goal is to launch two pilot projects to share up to $100,000 in funding to launch programs that will transform public transportation in Austin.
To participate, log onto the City:One Challenge website and share your ideas and experiences with mobility in Austin. The first community workshop session will be held on Thursday, July 18, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Rd. Austin, TX 78754.
Anyone is welcome to attend the workshop, but RSVP registration is encouraged since there is a capacity limit of 50 people. Future workshops will be announced on the City:One Challenge website.
“Austin has distinguished itself as both a city on the cutting edge of technology and one where community input helps shape solutions,” Mayor Steve Adler said in a press release. “The City:One Challenge program is perfect for a city like ours. Austin is where great ideas become real.”
At Whisper Valley, we’re thrilled Ford is investing in the future of public transportation in Austin. Increasing these options will not only help us ease traffic in Austin, but also give residents more ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
Looking ahead, Whisper Valley will one day be the site of a proposed stop on the Green Line of the Austin MetroRail. We also have plans to connect Whisper Valley Park, our planned 600-acre signature park, to Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park and East Metropolitan Park to allow our homeowners to hike & bike to recreational opportunities at these burgeoning parks.
We can’t wait to see what ideas Austinites come up with to improve mobility and Austin public transportation in the coming months through City:One Challenge!
