At Whisper Valley, we’re proud school-aged children living in our community have numerous educational opportunities available to them close to home. With the 2019-2020 school year drawing near, Whisper Valley is featuring just a few alternative Austin school opportunities available to our youngest residents.

Austin Discovery School

Located just moments from Whisper Valley along FM 969 in East Austin, Austin Discovery School is an academically rigorous public charter school dedicated to building compassion, collaboration, and critical thinking by engaging students with the natural world.

Austin Discovery School is a tuition-free charter school. Available spaces are filled through a random lottery each April for the upcoming school year, and siblings of currently enrolled students have priority.

IDEA School, Health Professions

IDEA Health Professions is a new, tuition-free charter school campus opening in 2019. The school serves students K-2nd grade and 5th-6th grade. IDEA’s academic model for this new school features a robust math, science and English Language Arts curriculum, in addition to a Health Professions course designed to expose students to a vast range of health careers in a fun, project-based classroom setting.

Enrollment is lottery-based to ensure equal access for all applicants.

Magnolia Montessori For All

Magnolia Montessori For All is a free, high-performing, authentic Montessori school that partners with families in East Austin to help children reach their extraordinary potential.

The school collects admissions forms for the next school year from November-February, and if there are more applications than available openings, a random lottery is used for enrollment.

Montessori at Winn Elementary School

The Montessori program at Winn Elementary School is the first Montessori in Austin ISD. The Montessori program consists of mixed age groups and is hands-on, letting every child learn at their own pace.

The Montessori program at Winn Elementary is free for students in K-2nd grade if you are in the district or an approved transfer. Winn currently accepts transfers from students who don’t live in their school zone, so students living in Whisper Valley would need to first apply to transfer to AISD.

Sankalpa Academy

Sankalpa Academy is a private school in the Mueller neighborhood of Austin, Texas that pursues excellence in early childhood education. The Academy strives to provide purposeful education for life through awareness, with a curriculum that is holistic, foundational and individualized.

Sankalpa currently serves children ages 2-8 in grades Pre-K-2nd grade. There are plans to add a new grade each year, all the way through high school, in the years to come. Enrollment is based on an application process, teacher evaluation, parent interview and school visit. Tuition and fees are outlined on the Academy’s website.

East Austin College Prep

East Austin College Prep is an innovative, tuition-free charter school open to Pre-K-12th graders in Austin and surrounding areas. The goal of the school is to inspire students to have college aspirations along with the academic skills and work ethic necessary to succeed. Enrollment is based on an application process.

KIPP: Austin

KIPP Austin is a non-profit network of 10 college-preparatory, public charter schools educating students K-12th grade. KIPP schools are tuition-free and enrollment is open to all students. Enrollment is completed through an application process. If the school receives more applications than available spots, they will hold an open lottery.

At Whisper Valley, we’re proud to be served by Del Valle ISD and to have two future planned campuses located on-site in our community.
