Whisper Valley Named Community of Year by Green Home Builder
Whisper Valley is proud to be named the 2017 Pubby Award “Community of the Year” by Green Home Builder magazine. The Pubby Awards are chosen by Green Home Builder Magazine’s readers. The awards recognize builders, developers, architects and communities that are committed to sustainable building practices.
Developed by Taurus Investment Holdings, each of the EcoSmart certified homes in Whisper Valley include an innovative geothermal heating and cooling system designed to save up to 65 percent on typical monthly energy usage. Solar panels will generate enough power to achieve zero-energy capable homes. Homes are also designed to meet the carbon-neutral standard promoted by the City of Austin for all new construction homes.
The 2,062-acre, mixed-use development consists of over 700 acres of open space and planned retail and neighborhood services, restaurants and commercial. Homes in Whisper Valley feature local builders Pacesetter Homes and Avi Homes.
Whisper Valley celebrated its grand opening in September, showcasing a 5,000-square-foot amenity center with a resort-style, geothermal-heated pool, creative play areas, a fitness center, a multi-purpose event and activity room, a Bosch Show Kitchen and a Discovery Center served by two electric car-docking stations. Homeowners also enjoy fresh produce grown in the community garden by local urban farming company Lettuce.
The development has plans for two school sites, a transportation hub and a fire station. Additional planned amenities include a Whisper Valley Public Park offering wooded and creekside nature trails connecting to miles of planned hiking and biking trails.
Whisper Valley is located just east of SH-130 at FM 973 and Braker Lane within Austin’s Desired Development Zone, 20 minutes from downtown Austin, 10-20 minutes from Google, Dell and Samsung corporate campuses, and 10 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
